Porblem statement
The current level of technology in natural language processing allows writers to significantly improve the way how they create prose.
To name the few: Grammarly, LanguageTool, Vale, Grazie Platform.
Such tools are widely used in software development for writing technical documentation, manuals, even commits and comments in code.
In the legal domain, however, they are not so widespread.
The Legal Rules Initiative
To fill the gap, we would like to introduce the initiative to create a set of rules adopted in the legal prose, or legal rules, which can be used by language processing software and be embedded into their engines as a separate library or dictionary.
This will allow legal professionals to write unambiguously, omit legal jargon, use the legal terms of art wisely.
Yet, this will allow readers to better understand the legal prose.
We strongly believe these legal rules belong to the community, so this initiative is developed as an open source.
We hope that over time, this project will mature into a useful tool for the legal community.
